Sunday is for Sharing: Volume 49

Four Pillar Freedom

Sunday is for Sharing is a weekly roundup of my favorite articles, videos, and podcasts I read, viewed, and listened to over the past week.

My Favorite Video

Mario Salcedo has been living on cruise ships for nearly 20 years and claims to be the happiest man in the world. I’m not sure I believe him, but his story is fascinating either way.

  1. Mario, the cruise guy, has done what all the FIRE people have done – made a conscious choice to optimize his lifestyle to suit him. He seems to have those 3 factors that you identified before to lead a fulfilling life – autonomy, mastery, and community (Im assuming from people he knows on ship). More power to him. I just wish, for his sake, he would lose some weight and stop smoking. There are others doing same, for instance, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dWFKp-bJtk&t=44s

    1. Mario has definitely identified the things he can’t stand doing (chores, laundry, housework, etc.) and eliminated those from his life completely. In that regard, he has done well. I just can’t help but wonder if the relationships he has are fulfilling or not, since he’s always moving from one ship to the next. His story is fascinating nonetheless.
